SURREY COLLISION

STEAMER AT AUCKLAND CARGO. UNDAMAGED. Having discharged a quantity of explosives at the powder anchorage off Motuihi, the Federal Line steamer Surrey, which was in collision in the river Thames when outward bound on her present voyage from London, berthed at Auckland on Saturday evening. The Surrey, which is loaded with general oargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lytteltqn, and Timaru, was in collision with the hopper barge J. H. .Hunter in the river Thames on the evening of November 25th. The steamer, which was proceeding down the river to load explosives at Holehaven, received considerable damage to her stem. Water immediately filled the forepeak, but the holds remained dry, and the Surrey was towed back to London for repairs. Five thousand tons of her cargo, none of which was damaged in the collision, was discharged, and thervessel was then dry docked. A number of her plates were replaced, and other repairs carried out, the steamer taking her second departure for New Zealand on December 12th,
