PETONE AFFAIRS
BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS A meeting of the Petone Borough Council was held last night.. There were present: Mr J. \Y. MoLwan (Mayor) and Councillors C. P. Brockelbanic, 1). McCarthy, A. Scholefield, A. Campbell, W. H. Edwards, H. Jay, V. Jacobson, G. Cook, and Jas. bharpu A communication was received Iron! the under-secreary, Publio Works Department, inviting the council to appoint not more than two representatives in conjunction with other local bodies, to a conference to discuss the regulations in respect to tlie control of omnibuses. The conference will he held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9th next, in the Parliament buildings, Wellington. Messrs Kirk, Wilson and Taylor, solicitors, forwarded an agreement, for execution, with the Pononga Tennis Club, and also advised the position in respect to legislation, submitted to the Government authorising the council to deal, as it may desire, with the stop-bank. The assistant engineer, Public • Works Department, asked for the council’s approval to lay a 3in water main along North street from Avn street, in the Wilford settlement. The matter was left 10 the borough engineer. It was decided to pass the statutory resolution imposing the 10 per cent, penalty on unpaid rates. It was decided to have four pages of publicity for Petone in a new publication, "New Zealand To-day,” which will be printed by the New Zealand Government in order to advertise the Dominion. The:report of the reserves committee was adopted. The following are the more important extracts: It was recommended that the borough engineer be instructed to ascertain all possible information with regard to. the' cost and running expense. of a motor mower for the recreation gro in.d; also recommended that the tarring of the pathway around the recreation ground should be done this summer, and that the engineer be instructed to report upon the best method of tar-sealing the cycle rrack. Tho council was recommended to nave structural alterations effected to the main dressing sheds on the foreshore with a view to bringing fbe doors together with a ticket bos for the collection of bathiDg fees; also advised to nave the children’s shed Part.y roofed to provide a measure of protection from the weather. It was recommended that the footpath fronting the newly-erected ornawwatal fence should be tarred. Th« committee recommended that the Heretnunga Boating Club he offered the same facilities for concreting as were extended to the Rowing Club. b
