A DEVIL IN HIM!
WHY THE ABBE WAS FLOGGED WOMEN GLORY IN THEIR ACTION REMARKABLE EVIDENCE Bv Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received January 25, 7.15 p.m.) PARIS, January 25. • The trial of ten women members of the Order Notre Dame des Pleura on a charge of flogging the Abbe Desriovers suggests a reversion to the Middle Ages rather than a civilised court of 1926. All the accused glory in their deed, and declare that. Desnoyers is the embodiment of Satan, and the most formidable wizard of modern times, and that he has cast an evil spell on a large number of people in Bordeaux. Loudid, a farmer, gave evidence concerning the Abbe’s enchantments, carried by means of sparrows and canaries which circled over the victims’ houses. As the Abbe sold his boul to Satan, the devil had to be driven cut by flogging. Grocer, another witness, said knotted cords were used to discipline the Abbe. The women were all dressed in hlack, and heavily veiled. When they left the court they were followed hy a ribald crowd, which sang parodies of their mystic incantations.
