OPEN EYES

"On. my way to see my young thrushes, I came across a goldfinch’s nest-with-four young goldfinches in it. But I did not disturb them. I am sorry to say we had a gale last week, and my thrushes were blown out and killed. So X buried them at the foot of the tree. There is a river running through our place, and I saw a wild duck with 14 ducklings swimming in the river. 1 sat on the bank watching them diving under the water. They were pretty little things, but I eoula not get near them. Also' as I was funning along the bank a bird flew out of a tree. I looked in- the tree for the nest and what do you think I saw. . . . four, little fantails.” —MORTIMER CORIN.
