TIMBER INDUSTRY

SAWMILLS CLOSING DOWN „ Per Press Association. TAIHAPE, December 17. A large and representative meeting of North Island sawmillers was held here yesterday to discuss conditions relating to the industry. It was stated after the meeting, by a prominent sawmiller, that owing to a general slackness in the timber trade the mills will be closed down on December 19th, probably for a month, and if the conditions do not improve in the meantime the Suestion of working short time in the Tew Year will have to be considered.
