POLICE, POLICE!

RAID ON BOWLING CLUB Wellington Bowling Club was raided by two police officers last evening during tbe progress of the smoke concert held in honour of the Carlton Club bowlers. The company present included tbe Hon. R. F. Bollard, Minister for Internal Affairs, and member for Raglan, and Superintendent W. B. Mcllveney, the new Chief Commissioner of Police. The festive board was set, and the guests had taken their seats. The toast of. “Tho King** had been honoured, and a musical item announced, when Mr J. J. , Roberts, who was' doorkeeper, slammed the door with cries of "Police, police 1” and the lights were switched off, leaving the rZom in darkness. There was a peremptory demand for admission. The door was opened, and in marched, a couple of uniformed officers with electric torches. The spot light quickly picked out the Minister and tbe Police Commissioner, whose names were duly noted for report. Then the lights went on again, the two officers mounted * the platform, and sang a jolly, song, “We’ll Run Them In." They were pseudo officers, Messrs E. J. Hill and Boh Orr, who had made up splendidly and put. on this novel opening turn, which was heartily applauded.
