AUCKLAND LOOKS TO FUTURE HUGE DEVELOPMENT PROPOSALS COST OVER FIVE MILLIONS Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 8. New proposals for the development of the Auckland harbour were submitted to the board to-day by the engineer, Mr D. Holderness. The complete cost is estimated at £5,500,000. The main items of the proposal are, — Wharf over the outer arm of the western breakwater, , and equipment, £OBO,OOO. Export wharf, and equipment, £580,000. General cargo wharf, west of Princess wharf, and equipment, £550,000. General purposes wharf, east of King’s wharf, and equipment, £545,000. Wharf over eastern breakwater and equipment, £525,000. Railway wharf and equipment, £270 000. Administrative offices, £250,000. Reclamation from Hobson street to Halsey street, £220,000. Cool store, £200,000. Reclamation west of western breakwater, £150,000. Viaduct to Freeman’s Bay, £90,000.
It is proposed _ that construction should be made in stages. The first five years’ programme, involving the expenditure of £875,000, includes a breastwork in front of the proposed site for the new workshops and store in Mechanics’ Bay, and a new wharf at Devonport. The report was referred to the board in committee.
