WELLINGTON SOUTH

MR SIEVWRIGHT AT BROOKLYN ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING. An enthusiastic rally was held at Fullford’s Hall, Brooklyn, last night, when Mr A. B. Sievwright continued hia campaign. Mr Geo. W. Slade presided over an enthusiastic meeting. Mr Sievwright elaborated his policy and said that prudence in administration and sound legislation making for social betterment were-essential to the welfare of the State and the advancement of the people. He was a believer in humanitarian legislation. Every worker was entitled to his own home in which to live with comfort for his wife and family. He strenuously opposed the State purchase of the workers’ home at the State valuation, as provided in the platform of the Labour Party Such a scheme would mean confiscation of the earnings of the workers. All the Labour leaders themselves showed their insincerity by acquiring the freehold of : their own properties. Mr Sievwright 1 claimed that his policy went hand-in-hand with true ana honest labour. Mr Sievwright supported a defence policy adequate to our national safety, and declared that the Labour Party had no defence policy and also advocated political unity with Chinese coolies. With the Labour Party in power New Zealand would be overrun by Asiatics. Mr Sievwright pointed out that the removal of income tax from large land proprietors was not in the beet interests of tbe people. Had that form of taxation been maintained there would have been no necessary for “cuts” in the Civil Service. He expressed sympathy with men on the basic wage, and advocated maternity assistance to the wives of workers, and the maintenance of our educational system with free medical and dental attendance to the school children. Mr Sievwright answered n number of questions and a vote of thanks and confidence was carried amid scones of enthusiasm.
