HAWKE’S BAY v. BULLER VISITING TEAM SUCCESSFUL. Per Press Association. WESTPORT, September 24. Groat interest was taken to-day in the meeting of /Buller and Hawke’s Bay mainly because the All Blacks, Nepia and Mill, were appearing in the visiting team. In the early stages the Hawke's Bay backs threw the ball about in great style. The passing- bouts were instituted by Mill. From two of, these move* ments the ball, after passing through several hands, Barclay scored an unconverted tries right out at the corner. Numerous other efforts to score in a similar manner proved fruitless owing to the determined tackling of the Buller backs and forwards. Having the wind, sun and a pelting shower of hail behind them, Hawke's Bay did most of the attacking in the first spell, but in the second session Buller more than held their own, and O’Neill and Gardiner scored unconverted tries. Buller kept the visitors under pressure, but in a dribbling rush up the field they carried all before them and managed to get over to score. Kivell converting. The final scores were? — Hawke’s Bay 11, Buller 6. Nepia gave a fine exhibition of fullback play, although occasionally, in attempting to take liberties, he wa9 collared in possession. Mill instituted many brilliant passing movements and made several fine efforts himself to score, but without success. Kivell, Barclay and Johnston also played an outstanding game for the visitors, while Davis was the mainstay of the Buller backs. O’Neill, TVFcNoiglit, Stuart, Gardnor, forwards, were always conspicuous. JUNIOR MATCH.
