COMMENCING IN NOVEMBER WIDESPREAD INTEREST DISPLAYED ARRANGEMENTS MADE From present indications there is going to be a large amount of stock proceeding from the North Island to Christchurch for the Royal Show which commences there on November 11th next. One well-known Wairarapa breeder is sending down seven bulls. The entries tor this great show close on October 17tli. Sheep-breeders from the various parts of the Dominion declare that the next Royal Show in Christchurch will be the finest exhibition of sheep ever held in the world, both as regards variety of breed and excellence of stock. The results of the Palermo Show in the Argentine nearly a couple of years ago proved that our stock can hold their own with the world’s best.

An erroneous impression has got abroad among Friesian breeders that tho judging of tliis breed will be undertaken by a local judge. The judge selected by the Royal Agricultural Society is Mr I'\. H. Butterfield, Fulham, South Australia. A big entry of this popular dairy breed is expected as the first provincial championship will be competed for. This championship will be competed for by provincial groups of seven animals. Each group consists of a bull over two years, a yearling bull, three cows in milk, and two yearling heifers. A selection committee is to inspect all the animals nominated, and this committee will make the final selection of the provincial group. The New Zealand Friesian Association has donated three prizes for the best groups, viz., £25, £ls, and £lO. The prize-money will be paid over to the district committee to be used at their discretion, either in paying part of the transport expenses of the stock, or in any way in the interest of the breed. TRANSPORT OF STOCK Arrangements are already in progress for the transport of stock to Christchurch. The whole of the train and steamer arrangements for the North Island will be supervised by the Royal Agricultural Society, whilst the Canterbury A. and P. Association will attend to all arrangements in the South Island. The New Zealand Jersey CattleBreeders’ Association- is donating £ls for the champion Jersey bull ana £ls for the champion Jersey cow at the next Royal Show. Such good prizes are being offered to attract the best animals in the Dominion. In addition to the above prizes this association is also donating £2O towards the prize funds. The judge of this well-known breed at the Royal Show will be Mr H 7 Moreland, of Hamilton. INTEREST IN ENGLAND

Evidently the success of the last Royal Show has been noted in England, as the Council of the Dairy Shorthorn Association of England has notified its intention of presenting a trophy for annual competition at our future Royal Shows. Some splendid animals of this breed were shown last year at Palmerston North, and Mr A. J. Melville, of Buckland, Auckland, will officiate in the judges’ ring this year. Mr W. . Lumby, of Sydney, who has been appointed judge of the merino sheep is considered as one of the best all-round merino judges in New South Wales. He does a lot of selecting and classing for various breeders in Australia, and is. a very much respected judge. One of the best judges in Australia, Mr A. J. Simpson, of Hamilton, Victoria, is to judge the Shorthorns in Christchurch. He is one of the best breeders in Australia, and there is no one in Australia more respected as a judge.
