MANY SURPRISING-WINS. Published in “Thp Times.” LONDON, Spetember 21. "The Times" racing correspondent 1 says, regarding sensational allegations of,racehotse doping: "That dope is being used. I have not tlje slightest doubt, and, whenever the subject is mentioned the. same names continually crop up. It is common knowledge that those, trainers are using some drug on horses who run away with handicaps, leaving their previous form far behind." He declares .that there have been many such winners this season whose success must-have surprised the authorities. TROTTING When the Timaru Trotting Club was forced to postpone the spring meeting » week ago on account of unfavourable_w-ea tlier application was made to the Trot-: ting Conference for October. 24th (the Saturday before Labour Day), but was refused* .as, it would have interfered with Greymbuth Trotting Club, which i* booked to race ion October 24th and 26th It is probabU that the Timaru Trotting' Club will hold one-day meetings in February and March, or as an alternative a two-day fixture in March. , The three-year-old .pacer Native Chief went -like a good horse in winning the trotting event on the second day of the Ashbyrton meeting. He is by Logan Pointer from an unnamed mare by Copa de Oro, from Hegina Bell (dam of I.ogan Chief). Lik© his well-performed relative ho is a member 'of J. J. Ivenrierley's team.

The Australian pacer Snowshoe is on hi* wav to *he 'Dominion, and cn his arrival He will go into P. Piddled stable to be prepared for the New Zealand Trotting cup. Prince Lyons, who has been racing for sonte time in Auckland, is how an inmate of R. Berry's stable at New Brighton. Ho looks as if he would be ready for early engagements. Ouimet looks big and well. It is worth

bearing in mind that he usually races beet when be is fresh. That speedy saddle miler August Dillon is in work again at New Brighton under his old mentor, N. C. Price. August Dillon 's very unsound, and with so low mile races now on programmes he will find it hard to get a win. The trotter Helen Bingen is going on the right way under J. N. Clarke s charge, and will probably bo raced next month Peter Bingen looks particularly wcnl. This young pacer put up some capital performances last season, and he givo indication that before the end of the present season he will be in more select company. ..... Herbiiwyn seems to be remaining fairlv sound, and the North Island-owned trotter is doing his work quite satisfactorily: Raraaroa has done a good deal of solid work, and is in excellent form to commence the sea eon's racing. Tho North Island-owned pacer Arawn is doing some of her work in saddle, and is well forward in condition. She will probably be seen out at the Welliugton Trotting Club's meeting. x Albert Logan seems to be keeping fairly sound, but N. C. Price wilt require to use all his skill on this good pacer to get him to the post. The Trotting Cup candidate Locanda Mac is looking reailv well. He did a lot of useful solid work all through the winter months, and he is now in good condition to be wound up for the cup. Don Wild continues to do steady work at Addington, but the five-legged pacer has not been asked to go at all fast. He seems to be sound. . A. Fleming’s two trotters, Maori Peter and Mollv Audubon, are working along satisfactorily. The latter is a much improved'mare in looks, but she is wliil somewhat unsteady in her gait.* Maori Peter is ono of the honest, solid sort. The American stallion Billy Whiz ha-i not yet been sent along at any speed in his work. 'He looks very much on the big.side. . ■ Stroller looks a.s though ..lie will raw better this season. Dunns his spell ho has. thickened out a lot, and. in a useful rvbrkout yesterday he paced in improved form. WELLINGTON TROTS In the Hutt Park Trial Handicap at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting Native Chief has beeA rehandicapped for the event. The previous handicap of 86 yards behind has now been altered to 96, yards behind. -
