HOUSING SITES
VISIT TO WILTON’S BUSH A party of members of the Wellington City Council yesterday visited Wilton’s Bush and Northland to inspect sites which have been suggested as suitable for the development of the council’s housing scheme. Those who made the journey were Councillors G. A. Troup, chairman of the committee; R. A. Wright, M.P.; MD. F. Luckie, W. H. Bennetf, B. G. H. Burn, J. Burns, F. W. Manton, F. Meadowcroft, A. L. Monteith, M.P.; R. McKeen, M.P.; and R. Semple, with the city engineer, Mr J. A. Paterson. They first visited Wilton’s Bush and inspected a number of sites, 63 in all, on either side of the main road, these being the property of the City Council. The cost of putting down the main drainage and water along the road would be approximately £SO per section, it was explained, and the mains would serve for other subdivisions in the locality, of which there will be a considerable number, as there are several large areas yet to be built upon. The members then crossed to O’Connor’s block at Northland, which can be subdivided into approximately 20 sections, a number or which must necessarily be on the hillside. The cost of drainage and water would he approximately the same per section as at Wilton’s Bush. The majority of those present, if not all, appeared to bo favourably impressed with the sites at Wilton’s Bush. It is understood that there is every probability that a practical start will be made on the housing scheme within a very few months.
