TRANSFER OF MACHINERY

DEPARTMENT NOT NOTIFIED FREEZING COMPANY FINE®. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, September 21. A breach of the Machinery Act was alleged against Nelson’s, Ltd., in the Magistrate’s Court, the charge being that the company had disposed of oertain machinery without giving notice to an inspector. The facts stated were that Nelson’s, Ltd., shipped machinery from their Gisborno works to Fletcher’s, Ltd., Auckland. Both firms were under the same management. The department required notice of the shipping of machinery. For the defence it was stated that the defendants had not thought the notice necessary, as they were merely transferring the machinery, and not selling it. Vesty’s were Nelson’s, Ltd., and Vestey’s were Fletcher’s. Ltd., although separately incorporated. The magistrate imposed a fine of 20s.
