MAN ELECTROCUTED
UNUSUAL FATALITY MEASURING HEIGHT OF POWER, LINE. Per Press Association. TIMARU, September 21. A fatality of an unusual nature occurred at Orari on Saturday afternoon, when a young man, Michael Maylon, was killed by an electric shock whilst measuring the height of the electrio power transmission line. The evidence at the inquest showed that the deceased was endeavouring to ascertain the height of the wires by means of a metallic tape. The tape was carried by the wind along the wire to a pole, where it touched an iron guard. The deceased received a shock from which he died five minutes later. The coroner, in giving his verdict, added the following rider: “In my opinion, explicit instructions for safe guarding the lives of the men should have been issued by those in authority when giving orders to the men to measure the line.”
