TEACHERS’ SUPERANNUATION

Twelve teachers, who had broken service in the education service recently petitioned Parliament to be allowed to rejoin the superannuation fund from the beginning of their service, provided they made up the payments for the broken time. The petitions committee to which the petition was referred reported „hat it had no recommendation to make. Mr Witty and Mr Holland said the report should he referred back. Sir James Parr said the teachers had left the service to suit their own convenience. It was impossible for the department to break its principle in the matter. Mr Witty said these teachers had come hack to teach during the war at the request of the Government, and they were thus in a different category from those to whom the Minister bad referred. The report was referred back to the committee.
