The delegates to the National Conference of Friendly Societies at Brighton declared that rheumatism, not tuberculosis, is the white man’s scourge, that it causes a loss to British industry of three million working weeks annually, and is wrecking the lives of hundreds of thousands of people who cannot afford special treatment The secretary declared that one out of every six of the population was affected by rheumatism. The National Insurance Act should be amended to inqjude the most modern treatment for this scourge among the masses.
