WAR REQUIRES STEEL
JAPAN IS WEAK IN THAT METAL AMERICA’S THEORY. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. VANCOUVER, July 29. Professor Charles K. Leith, of the University of Wisconsin, speaking at a round-table conference on mineral resources as a factor in world affairs, held by the Institute of Politics at Williamsfcown. said: — . “Because of Japan’s look of one of the sinews- of war, steel, it seems impassible that die could keep the, way open to any of the three, great steel centres, especially if she were at war with any of roe. countries —United States, England, and France which control them. “The dearth of mineral supplies in the Far East seems to contradict decisively the theories that that part of the is going to be the centre of the civilisation of the future. It also removes Japan, as a war threat, for a nation cannot have war power without great industrial power. Japan is woefully weak in steel, and she kriows it.”
