LEAD GAINED AND LOST REMARKABLE CHANGES IN PLAY. Falkiner and McConachy resumed their big match at the Albert billiard saloon yesterday. Great interest is being taken in tho game, as this is the last appearance of Falkiner in New Zealand, who leaves shortly for Australia, where he plays Liiidrnm before proceeding Home. * Although at one stage of the game on Tuesday evening McConachy was over 1000 behind, he made a remarkable recovery, and playing brilliantly yesterday afternoon he made up the balance of arrears and took the lead. In the afternoon he made an excellent run of 440, comprising nursery cannons, top of the table and hazard' play, the use of the long butt proving his* undoing. He also made breaks of 112 and 383. Falkiner put together a neat 111. and followed this with 247. In the evening both players made runs approaching 100, when Falkiner got into bis stride for 173. when a kiss intervened and prevented a cannon. McConachy ran up 75 at the top of the table, missing a cannon from hand. From this Falkiner took the lead again with a break of 235. while McConachy followed with a break of exactlv 100 less. Another of 146 came from Falkiner’s cue. he leaving a red winner in tho jaws of the pocket. The New Zealander only added a few and Falkiner, getting the balls to the top cushion, made ovei 80 consecutive cannons along ttm top and side cushions before breaking them up at the middle pocket, the total break being 373. By this time McConachy was over 500 in arrears again. ” Again McConachy did not come up to expectations, missing a cushion cannon, Falkiner taking 116 for his next stick.
