Watkins* at the meeting said a deputation of representatives of industrial associations and gramophone manufacturers would wait upon the Minister shortly to make representations. A good deal of controversy had taken place in both Islands, I and tlie matter had created quite a lot jof public interest. ) A good deni of correspondence had ; been received on the subject, and in reply to the letters in tlie Press; but the association had not replied to it, as .it was not considered desirable to continue the argument. They were British-made machines that were supplied to the Education Department. Had they been foreign they would have taken the matter | up. for they took the line that if they could not secure the orders for New Zea-land-made goods, British-made goods should bd supported.
