MYSTERY MAN
HINDSNBURG'S NEW ROLE. NO PUBLIC APPEARANCES. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received April 17, 5.5 p.m.) LONLON, April 16. Th« Berlin correspondent of the ‘ ‘Daily Express’' says that Marshal von Hindenburg has been living a hermit’s life in Ids palatial residence in tho Ludwigstrasse, Hanover, which is a mystery horse, as the curtains are never drawn, the gates are never opened, and there are no signs of life about the house or garden. For mouths the townsfolk have tried to sea the Marshal, but always have failed. Only the persuasion of Ids daughter, added to those of Admiral von Tirpitz, made the Marshal agree to stand for the Presidency It is now announced that he will riot appear at public meeting?, although be has had invitations to .‘peak in cities in all parts of Germany. To all invitations Hinden‘burg replied that he was already known all over the country. He will, however, hold a reception in Hanover on Sunday, when hs will explain his political programme to newspaper representatives. German financiers in New York have telegraphed a warning to Hindenburg that if he does not withdrawn from the Presidential contest the flow of American capital to Germany will he interrupted.
