ACTIVITIES AT AUCKLAND. SAFE BLOWN OPEN. (Special to “N.Z. Times.”). AUCKLAND, March 24. A safe at the factory of Whittome and Stevenson, in Carlton Gore road, Newmarket, was blown open some time between Saturday and Monday. On account of previous visitations of the kind, it has been the policy of the firm for some time past not. to keep money in the office safe overnight, and also to leave the safe, containing the books, unlocked. On this occasion the safe had been inadvertently locked by a clerk, with the result that when 1 the staff came to work this morning they found that someone had blown the safe open. The damage to the safe and books was considerable, but the burglar got nothing for his trouble. BIJRCLARY AT FRANKTON TWO MEN CHARGED. As the outcome of a burglary at Bowman’s barber’s shop in Frankton, William Robert McCallum (21) was charged with having stolen four razors, two Loewe piped. 60 packets of cigarettes, six tins of tobacco, lib plug of tobacco, a silver cigarette case, and a stick of shaving soap, all of the total value of £B. Arthur Edgar Syderly Nicholls (20) was charged with receiving some of the stolen articles. Both men were remanded on bail.
