ORIENTAL BAY TRAMS
RECONSTRUCTION OF TRACK. DECISION ON THURSDAY. The position in regard to the Orien* tal Bay tramway service comes up for settlement at a special meeting ot the City Council on Thursday evening. At the meeting of the council the tramways committee reported that it had fully considered the position regarding the Oriental Bay tramway route, and the suggested proposal that the existing tramway track should b» abolished and a trackless or an ordinary ’bus service inaugurated. The committee were strongly of the opinion that the best course to adopt would be to reconstruct the existing track, and recommended that this work be put in hand forthwith. A deputation of Oriental Bay residents presented xn extensively-signed petition requesting, on account of the dust nuisance, that Clyde quay and Oriental Bay roods should be paved with bitumen and trackless tranis or motor-’buses put on, instead of incurring the heavy expense of relaying the existing tramlines. After discussing the maitef at some length, it was decided to defer the subject to the special meeting.
