WELLINGTON WINTER SHOW

FURTHER MEETING* AT OTAKI. ("Times” Correspondent.) . OTAKI, March 21. A meeting of persons interested in making an Otaki and district display at the coming Wellington winter snow was held on Thursday night, Mr L. G. Lowry, president of the Chamber of Commerce, presiding. There was a good attendance. The ohairman explained that the meetmg_was lor the purpose of furthering Otaki’s interest at the coming winter allow, and stated that already Colonel Mitchell had given an address on the matter, and that after listening to him it, had Been decided to call a further meeting. It was. recognised that a deal of expense would be incurred, but he felt that Otaki should be represented. He advised that residents get busy and make an exhibit, and thus let the cities and others see what they were capable of producing. Mr llrandon (Mayor) agreed that something should ;be done to boost Otaki, and thus .bring the township and district more into prominence. There were many who had: never heard of Otaki. and knew nothing of the fine climate and the products. He hoped that a committee would he set up, and felt sure all canvassed would respond liberally. Mr Small pointed out that the show was to last sixteen days, and this to his mind was the drawback; The show- appeared to l>e industrial more than agricultural. and he did not see how Otaki could get the class of goods and main tain it for sixteen days. Mr Broadway agreed with Mr Small, and said that even if a stand was made of vegetables it would have to he renewed by replacing several lines. He agreed that first-class exhibits could be sent from Otaki. Mr Drinkley said that the purpose of the exhibit was to advertise Otaki and district, and thought if a display was made and photographed and photos afterwards exhibited this would save replacement of various products. After discussion Mr Mitchell moved, in order to avoid too many meetings, that a meeting be called in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce, and that all present he formed into a committee to find out what support would he forthcoming for a court at the exhibition ; the meeting to be held on the first Thursday in May. Seconded by Mr Brandon and carried. Mr Norgrove thought pamphlets of the Tararuas could_ be issued, and a large map of the track exhibited. Mr Small said he already had a relief map of the Tararuas as far as Mt. Hector. The chairman .after thanking the Mayor and councillors for attending, trusted that all would work together, make a creditable display, and thus place Otaki well on the map.
