AMATEUR ATHLETICS
COMPETITION AT PETONE. In spite of the theatening weather which was experienced during the initial events at Petone last Saturday the prospects brightened, and as the afternoon advanced so did the conditions become more favourable. The meeting was held under the auspices of the N.Z.A.A.A., and to those who were responsible great credit is due /in the smart running off of the various events, all being up to scheduled time. During the afternoon some good times were put up but no records were lowered. A fair attendance of spectators witnessed the. proceedings. One of the most interesting events of the day Was {he road walking race, which was started from the (Athletic Park and finished at the Petone Oval where the sports were being held. The distance covered' by the 'competitors was about 10 miles, and D. G. Mclntosh succeeded in winning in the creditable time -of lhr 33min 19seo. J.
