The Dominion pairs championship opened at Wellington yesterday morning in halcyon weadies. a. practically cloudless sky, and the heat of the sun tempered by a cool breeze. The greens .were fast, and in splendid conditionThere worn 176 entries in all, as compared ‘with. 209 last year; but there was no lack of interest in the play, the draw having been so arranged as u> avoid bowrers from the same district playing against each other, and- the games were very keenly contested. SEMI-FINALS ON THIRD DAY. Three section- rounds were played yesterday and two will he played today, the balance of the day being left for playing off section ties. The sectional play is on 'the “two life” system, and the pcst-eectional play will J-«. on the “sudden death” principle. The.number of, competing pairs will be reduced to-day to eleven, and it is anticipated that the eeroi-finalS Will be -reached on the third day of play.
