WATERSIPERS* AWARD
PROTEST AGAINST TERMS. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, December 27. Three calls for labour for loading the meat steamer Cumberland were made this morning, without response. It is Understood that the refusal of the watersiders to accept engagement is intended as a protest against the terms of the new award, which provided for hourly payment" instead of contracts.
