“HERE GOES!”
A STRANGE SUICIDE MAX JUMPS OFF WHARF INTO WATER. TODY STILL MISSING. “He just said, ‘Here goes!' and Jumped over.” Tnis statement was made to a “Times’’ reporter last night by Mr V. Bannister, ambulance driver in the employ of the Harbour - Board. Mr Bannister said that ho was etanding on the Lambton wharf, near the Xgukuta, talking to Mr J. MeUready, when they saw what they believed to bo one of the ship keepers nf a boat in the harbour approaching. He got within 15 yards of them, then, after uttering the above statement, jumped into the water between the wharf and tho vessel. ATTEMPT AT RESCUE. Both Mr Bannister and Mr MeCready scrambled down tho piles and jumped in after the missing man, but as it was pitch dark they could not see anything. They swam round, but after searching for some time decided that they could do nothing further towards rescuing the man. The wharf police were then communicated with, and a search was made with grappling irons, but thor*. was no sigpi of a body at an early hour this morning.
