APIA OBSERVATORY
BOARD OF ADVICE MEETING. METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS. At a meeting of the Apia Observatory Board of Advice yesterday, it was noted with satisfaction that tho meteorological observations in the South Pacific Islands are now satisfactorily correlated and published, and it is anticipated that valuable deductions will be made from the combined reports from tho stations cm the various islands. In this connection the efforts of the New Zealand Government received cordial mention at tho international Geodetic and Geo-physical Union held at Madrid in October last. At that meeting several publications from the Apia Observatory were presented and discussed. The Director of the Observatory has reported that a solar radiation measuring instrument presented by the inven-i tor, Dr Gortzynski, has been installed at the Apia Observathory. The measurement of solar radiation is one of the most important elements in connection with agriculture, and it is considered unfortunate that such measurements are not made in Now Zealand, where they would no doubt bo of value in connection with agriculture and crop production.
