KHANDALLAH FLOWER SHOW
SPLENDID FXFTRITION OF BLOOMS. VALUE OF HORTICULTURE. The annual ' exhibition of locally crown spring bulbs and other flowers was held in the Khandallah Town. Hall on-Saturday and proved an unqualified success; ‘both as to- the quality and number of the exhibits. That such a; wealth of floral exhibits should have be'en -staged for exhibition’ only bv the residents of Kliandallah speaks loudly for their enthusiasm and thelnterest taken in horticulture, while it is. evident that the soil and climate will produce floyvers of all classes equal to the best to be ' found- - in- any part of .Wellington. Shows like the one held on. Saturday should do much to popularise the culture of flowers, and develop .a taste for the beautiful amongst the suburban residents. Mr . Geo.. A. Green delivered a most interesting address on “The New Zealand Institute of ■ Horticulture W’hat. it is, and what it aims’to do.” He dealt with the origin and work of the institute, showing the need for a standard- nomenclature of’.tred’S and plants, for improved horticultural education and methods, and generally a better appreciation of the value of'the aesthetic as well as the commercial side of our Dominion life. After a large sheaf of questions had been satisfactorily answered, a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Green was passed.
