STREET WORKS
EXTRA EFFORTS MADE IMPROVING ROADS. An extra effort is being.made by the city works department just now for the provision of road maintenance. All the street* works strength (all the me.i who are engaged in road construction during the summer time) is now ou'. on the road strength to put the thoroughfares in order. No less than three separate gangs are now on the main foreshore road, and maintenance is proceeding in all parts of the city. A stretch of bitumen hqa been lari down between the corporation's permanent stables .and the corporation yard in the yard itself. This has kept the machine going at fu'l strength, and is easy to handle, as it is right beside where the mixer is stationed at present.
