CARL HERTZ—ILLUSIONIST. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, March 91, The -death is announced -of Carl Hertz the well-known illusionist. Carl Hertz, illusionist and conjurer, wae bom at San Francisco in 1859. He was a epn of Samuel Morgenstern, and started out an life as a draper. In 1878 he made bis first public appearance as a conjurer, in San Francisco. He followed tihds by performing in most of the leading theatres in the United States, and in 1884 li® toured England and the Continent of Europe. Be appeared at all the principal music halls in London and the provinces, and has also toured New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, India, and China. Has most popular illusion w\as tho famous “Vanishing Lady,” originally known as the “King of Cards.” In 1915 he joined forces with diaries Marritt, another illusionist well-known in England and Europe. Carl Hertz visited New Zealand in 1897, touring the principal centres. LEFT £250,000. Australian and N.Z. Gable Association (Received March' 23, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 22. Tho “Daily Express” understands that Carl Hertz left £250,000, which constitutes a record for a stage performer.
