REVOLTING CRUELTY. LIGHT 9ENTBNCE IMPOSED. Per Press Association. GISBORNE. March 22. In the Supreme Court, George William Wright, found guilty on two charges of maiming a horse, was sentenced to four years’ reformative treatment The judge stated it was a case of revolting cruelty. Prisoner had made a practice of torturing and maiming dumb animals. For two years past a number of mares had been found dead in the Whakatane and Opotiki districts under mysterious circumstances. The judge said that he had no doubt that prisoner was responsible for the death of these animals. Since the trial skeletons of nine mares had been found in a gully near where the prisoner was living.
