CAR SOMERSAULTS
KELLS FARMER’S SON. COMPANION ESCAPES. Per Press Association. GISBORNE. March 22. A motoring accident occurred near Whatatutu early this morning. Lionel Spence, manager of Waipawa Station, and Peter Jex-Blake, an employee, were motoring home from a dance when Hie car left the road after negotiating a sharp bend, hit a tree, and dropped 30 feet, rolling over and over. Jex-Blake (son of a well-known sheep farmer) was killed instantly. Lionel Spence received scalp wounds, and wa* dazed, but soon recovered, and went to a roadman’s cottage.
