FIGHT IN STREET
KNIFE DRAWN IN STRUGGLE. “A VERY SINISTER ASPECT.” A wrestling match between two men in a. street was the cause of George William Robinson 'and Archibald Percival Olarke, a nineteen-year-old labourer, appearing at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Mr E. Page, S.M.. oharged with using threatening behaviour. Clarke was represented by Mr C. A. L. Treadwell, but Robinson did not appear. A carrier named Bryant was called by the police, and he stated that he was a witness of the scuffle. He did not attempt to interfere until be saw the smaller man, Clarke, who was underneath the other, pull out a knife from his pocket. Bryant said he thought it was time to interfere, so took the knife away from the defendant. Clarke afterwards came to him demanding the knife, but witnefe said he would hand it over to Constable Baker, who resided in the district. The defendant, in giving evidence, said he had resided with Robinson and his wife for a number of months. Recently Robinson had made allegations against him in connection with-hi* wife, and witness had denied it. The scuffle, said witness, was a result of his trying to find out from Robinson who had started the _ allegations. In _ the matter of drawing the knife, witness said it was one he liad bought for repairing boots. He had drawn it from, hie pocket as it had cut his pocket during the ibrawl. His Worship said that the knife being drawn during the scuffle gave a very sinister complexion to the affair. Clarke was fined £5 and costs, in default 21 days’ imprisonment, aril Robinson was fined £1 and costs.
