HUTT VALLEY POWER BOARD. WHEN WILL “JUICE” BE ON? The fortnightly meeting of the Hutt Valley Power Board was held yesterday, when Mr J. W. McEwan presided over the following: Messrs A. J. Hobbs, W. H. P. Barber, H. Jay, A. J. McCurdy, W. T. Cotton, H. Foley, and A. W. Press. The dispute between the hoard and the Railway ’Department over the carriage of a consignment of poles from Wellington wa6 again mentioned, when a reply was received from the deportment stating that no reduction in the amount of freight charged could lie given, as it was contended that no mistake had been made in calculating the amount of timber carried. The secretary explained that the amount which the hoard considered it had been over-charged was £3O. If given the necessary authority, he was confident that he could convince the department that it had made a mistake.—He was authorised to proceed with the negotiations. In answer to Mr Barber, the chairman said that he had been unable to obtain from the Minister any definite statements as to when the power would be turned on.
“When I was up there the other day,” he added, “and saw the huge quantities of machinery—pipes 10ft in diameter—it did not seem too promising to me for an early completion.” A proposal that the members' of the board should pay a visit of inspection to the Mangahao works was revived, and it was decided that the party should leave town next Thursday afternoon and devote the following day to inspecting the works.
