HORRIBLE CRUELTY
HORSES IN AGONY. WHAT POLICE FOUND ON MAKING ARREST. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, March 19. At the Supreme Court, to-day, William Henry Wright was charged with wilfully committing mischief to a mare at Taneatua. The evidence showed that one horse had been found dead after terrible agony, another had been badly injured internally, and both were bleeding badly. * Accused had been arrested Tot theft, and when his bedroom was searched the police found a bottle of corrosive sublimate tablets, a bottle of oil of Rhodium bluostone, tins of toxa poison, five plugs of gelignite, automatic firearms and ammunition. Evidence * was given that the animal’s- death was due to a powerful irritant. The use of oil of Rhodium; experts explained, would entice strange animals. A verdict of guilty was returned and sentence was deferred.
