FEDERAL SPEAKER

VISITING NEW ZEALAND. GUEST OF GOVERNMENT. The Right Hon. W. A. Watt, P.C., Speaker of tbe Federal House of Representatives, has arrived, on a short visit to New Zealand. He will be tbe guest of the Government at luncheon in Wellington. Mr Watt entered the Victorian State Parliament in 1897, at the age of 25 years, and -was State Premier when he resigned to enter the Federal sphere. He was Minister of Works and Railways, Federal Treasurer and Acting-Prime Minister, and won general commendation for his leadership, being regarded as the outstanding personality of tbe Cabinet; he proved himself a most capable financier and administrator in State and Commonwealth affairs. He was created a Privy Councillor in 1920.
