MARITZ TRIAL
STARTLING EVIDENCE. GERMAN PLANS. (Sydney “Sun” Cable.) CAPETOWN, January 25. Major Liepoldt, Chief Intelligence Officer in the South-west African caroSaign, after giving ' evidence in the laritz trial for treason, in an interview, said that he had asked the German Governor after his surrender, if he really meant to assist the rebels to declare their independence of the union. Tho Governor emphatically affirmed that he did, and added that he was prepared to supply unlimited arms and ammunition. When Boers and British were exterminated by 'the inevitable civil wax, South Africa would ho clean for good Germans.
