MURDER CHARGE
CASE AGAINST RICHARDS. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received January 23,,-10.35 p.m.) MELBOURNE, January 23. John Richards has been committed for trial on the charge of wilfully murdering Lancelot Johnson. Lancelot Johnson, who figured in the Melbourne wine bar tragedy last October, was fatally shot. Subsequently John Richards, son of the proprietress of the bar, surrendered to the polioe, stating that he had shot Johnson. He said the quarrel occurred over alterations in the bar, and that Johnson, who was intoxicated, assaulted his mother with a bottle. Richards rushed upstairs and secured a pea-riflo, and when descending saw Johnson fall into his mother’s arms. He had a bullet wound over his heart, and died shortly afterwards.
