CROQUET TOURNEY
FINALS REACHED. FINE EXPOSITION BY MRS TIFFEN. (By Telegraph—Special to “Times”) PALMERSTON N., January 22. The Dominion croquet tournament is now reaching a finality, and there has been a general exodus of unsuccessful competitors from the town. As is usual only the top players remain in the events, and several are being held up owing to the same competitior to ing in the final and semi-finals. In the ladies’ championship "the final will be played between Mrs Glass and Mrs Watkins, both of Hawke’s Bay. The best exposition of croquet dtir ing the tournament was that of Mi* Tiffen (Napier), who played to-day five James in the open championship, only osing one out of the five. _ The scientific manner in which this lady laid her balls and peeled thdm through the hoops was the admiration of the spectators. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. Two out of three games: Mrs Tiffen beat Stratton two straight games; Mrs Tiffen beat McCullough two games to one. HANDICAP SINGLES. Mrs Hogan beat McCullough 26—15; Mrs Kenyon beat Mrs Given 24—23; Mrs Pickering beat Mrs Frost 26-7-21; Stratton beat Mrs Jarvie 26—8; Miss Blake beat Mrs Kenyon 26—12; RO6& beat Stratton 23—16: .Ross beat Miss Blake 26—9; Mrs Tiffen beat Mrs Pinckney 26—15.
