THE CITY FATHERS
AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION. “EFFORTS OF BOARD BACKED UP.” “While throughout New Zealand tho civic authorities are generous in tho support they give to the Technical College,” said Mr J. H. Howell (direotor of the college), “we in Wellington are specially fortunate in the way in which, from the earliest days, the City Council has backed up the efforts of the board to supply the needs of the district. You, Mr Mayor, have never turned a deaf ear, however busy you may have been, whenever any help has been asked of you-—whether in soliciting funds from the citizens or from the Government, in pushing forward the schemes of the board, or taking part in college functions. And the attitude of the Mayor and council is reflected in that of their officers, who are always ready to help the college by any means in their power, and some of them are doing valuable work on the advisory committees. I can assure you that the members of the college deeply appreciate this assistance, and believe that in days to come the city will obtain a very large return, and have every reason to be proud of the institution it has specially fostered. “W'e are also grateful to the Press of Wellington (he added) far the prominence they have given to college affairs, and for their readiness to place our needs before the public.”
