ERUPTIONS IN COLOMBIA

CAUSE OH VIOLENT ’QUAKE. GREAT LANDSLIDES. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. VANCOUVER, December 16. Chile, which suffered most from the earthquake, is a town situated on the elopes of Chile volcano, to the eruption of which the present disaster is attributed. The road from Cumbal to Ipialee is obstructed by great landslides, and the full extent of the earthquake is unknown. Numerous surrounding villages are believed to be badly damaged, and many people are homeless and without food or shelter. Mild shocks continue. Many shocks were felt along the southern frontier of Colombia; the villages of Carld and Sama were destroyed, and Paste, Ipiales, Tuquerras, and Ibarra, in the direct line of the shocks, were badly shaken. Serious damage was done at Ipiales. The volcanoes of Cumbal and Chile continue in active eruption.
