TRIP TO THE WEST COAST. WELLINGTON MEN AND DOMINION RESOURCES. Directly after Christmas a party of Wellington business men numbering from 12 to 16, organised by Mr A. Leigh Hunt, arid including Mr N. Elmelie, H.M. Trade Commissioner, and Mr J. Myers, president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, propose leaving the city for a visit to the West. Coast. They will journey over to Nelson and travel via Buffer Gorge to Greymouth, Westport. Hokitika and on to the Franz Josef Glacier, returning by Otira tunnel. The object of the trip is threefold,' firstly to inspect the undeveloped resources of the Coast in the way of coal, iron, oememt, and other minerals, timber, etc.; secondly, to cultivate closer trade relationships with Wellington, and thirdly to epend a very enjoyable holiday. Bince the opening of direct communication between the West Coast and Christchurch a good deal of trade that used to be done with Wellington has been going to the city of the plains, and it is thought that a personal visit by prominent Wellington business men will renew the business relationships that have been showing a tendency to migrate to Christchurch. Chambers of Commerce, Progress Leagues, and local bodies on the Coast are undertaking to arrange an itinerary and provide entertainment for the visitors in the respective districts. An enjoyable and profitable time is anticipated.
