EASTBOURNE AFFAIRS

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS. The monthly meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held last Friday evening, under tlie chairmanship of the Mayor (Mr F. H. Mather). The following were also present: Councillors H. WT Sliortt, C. Hartridge, E. A. Dawson, C. Bowden, H. J. Levy, and C. A. Marquis. MANAGER’S REPORT.

The general manager’s report stated that very little patching had been done owing to the dry weather. Repairs to the Rona street culvert had been carried out, .and levelling and filling had been carried out in Hinau street. A special “clean up week” was at present being held, and being faithfully carried out. Generally speaking the young trees are doing well, but they required watering iegmarlv during the continued dry weather. Sale® at the coal depot amounted to £44 2s 6d, expenditure amounting to £166 11s Id. From April Ist to November 30th the receipts totalled £651 3s 3d. and the expenditure to £731 14s. GENERAL. Building permits for November totalled £2615, and included two! dwellings, two whares, and a washhouse. From April Ist to date 59 permits .had been issued, representing buildings, ol an estimated value of £22,662. Jeei paid thereon amounting ,_ta £53 10s» During the month £444 16s had been received for rates, and there was still outstanding for general rate and sanitation fees the sum of £lO9l 19s 4d.

Rimu street, the business thoroughfare of the borough, suffers from the dust* nuisance, stated the report, add it was recommended that the street; be treated with some material similar to that used in other places for the purpose, the cost to be approximately £B. The report was adopted.
