THE NEW ZEALAND SOCIETf« ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Astronomical Society, held last week, and presided over by Dr C. E. Adams, was well attended and of an enthusiastic character. The following officers were elected: Patron, the Governor-General (Viscount Jellicoe); president. Hon. * Sir Frederick Chapman ; .. vice-presidents, Mr John C. Begg, F.R.A.SI., Sir "Francis Bell, Sir Robert Stout, Hon. G. M. Thomson, F.L.S., M.L.C.; secretary. Dr O. E. Adams, D.Sc., F.R.A.S.; treasurer, Mr C. G. G. Berry; editor. Mr A. C. Gifford, M.A., F.R.A.S.; librarian, Mr R. C. Hayes; council,.Mr Thomas Allison, F.R.A.S., Professor C Coleridge Farr, B.Sc., Mr E. G. Hogg, M.A., F.R.A.S., Captain G. S. Hooper, F.R.A.S., Professor D. M. Y. Sommerville, M.A., D.Sc., and Mr J. T. Ward. Mr E. C. Isaac explained to "the meeting the working of an astronomical clock made by himself, and gave much interesting information as to the methods used in this precise art. His exoellent workmanship was the subject of a motion of congratulation from-the society. An interesting address on the nebulae, illustrated by a fine selection of lantern slides, was given by Mr A. C. Gifford, and an animated discussion followed each paper.
