FIRE AT WAVERLEY
BUSINESS PREMISES DESTROYED. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, December 13. A disastrous fire occurred at Waverier in the early hours of this morning. The outbreak was discovered in Muir’s Buildings, in which there were three shops, occupied by J. J. Patton (tailor), H. Daniels (confectioner and fruiterer), and G. McGorrery (grocer), also by AV. H. James (commission agent). The fire was discovered by Mr and Mrs Daniels, who lived on the premises. The flames had a good hold, and Mr and Mrs Daniels had to make a hurried escape in their night attire. There is no fire brigade, but old members ralllied, and, assisted by a number of young men, the manual engjne was requisitioned, and the fire confined to the premises named. Patton had no insurance on his stock; Daniel’s stock was insured for £4OO in the New Zealand Office; McGorrery had £BOO on his stock in the AtTae Office, and the Building was insured for £2OOO ir the South British Offioe.
