NEW SCHOOLS
ARCHITECTS’ FEES.
PUBLIC WORKS PLANS NOT APPROVED. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, December 13. Discussing the memorandum from the Director of Education, stating that, in view of the very large sums paid annually as fees to architects in connection with new schools, that all plans and specifications would in future be prepared by Public Works officers in consultation with officers of the Education Department, Mr Scott, chairman of the management board of the Technical College, stated that as a builder he had experience of the planning of the Public Works Department. He was sure that the result would be unsatisfactory. He bad known lithographed plans 50 years old to be used; also the Wellington officials did not consider other climatic conditions. The board resolved to protest against the proposal, suggesting instead the appointing of an Education Department architect to each dis trict.
