MINISTERIAL The Minister for Customs (the Hon, TfV Downie Stewart) is to leave Wellington on December 10th for the South Island, and will attend the annual break-up ot Waitaki High School on December 12th. tie will leave Christchurch on December 14th for Hokitika, where he will open the exhibition .on December loth, in his capacity of Minister for Industries and Commerce. He will attend several school functions in Otago, returning to .Welling* ton early in the New Year. Mr G. T. Dawson, of the South British Insurance Company’6 staff, Dunedin, has been transferred to Wellington. Captain P. J. Foster, marine superintendent for the Union Steain Ship. Company, has returned from a flying visit to Dunedin. Mr Dalziell. of Wellington, is a visitor to Rotorua. Mr Abraham, of Palmerston North, is also at Rotorua. Messrs D. G. Morrison and G. L. George, of Wellington, are at Auckland. Mr Newton King, of New Plymouth, is at Auckland. Judge Rawson, of the Native Land Court, has arrived in Wellington from Auckland. Mr and Mrs N. Alfred Nathan have returned to Auckland after a holiday in the Rotorua, Taupo and Napier districts. His Lordship the Bishop of Wellington (Dr Sprott) is at Wanganni. Sir Thomas Mackenzie, M.L.C.,' has been visiting Christchurch. Mr H. E. Shaw (Wellington) is in th« South Island. Mr F. R. H. Gardiner has been appointed chairman of the Banks Peninsula Rabbit Board for the ensuing year. Mr Raynor White is in Wellington attending a conference of London College of Music representatives. Mr A. Parnell has been appointed chief plumbing and sanitary inspector .by tha Wellington City Council, at his present salary. Mr L. Waterreus, who has been muH ager of the Newman cheese factory for a considerable period, is relinquishing that position. Mr W. H. Trevan, manager of Lave* Bros. (N.Z.), Ltd., will go to Auckland to meet Viscount Leverhulme on his arrival there on December 27th. His Grace Rev. Archbishop O’Shea* after conducting confirmation services at Masterton and Carterton on Sunday, motored to Wellington later in the evening. At the annual meeting of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. last evening a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr C. R. Edmonds, who for several months acted *• general secretary during the absenoe oi Mr J. L. Mr C. H. Barratt has xetixed-from the directorate of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. At the annual meeting last night Messrs H. S. Maunder, W. Eglin and A. Dougall were Te-elected to the baard of directors* and Mr Gregg was elected to fill the vacancy. -C A Press Association message from Gisborne states that before the formal business of the Supreme Court was commenced His Honour Mr Justice McGregor was congratulated by the local Bar on Ail appointment to the Supreme Court Bench and on his first official visit to Gisbomw. Mr E. W. Ackland, managing director of the National Electrical and Engineering Go.. Ltd.; Mr J. R. Simpson, managei of Briscoe and Co.. Ltd.; and Mr Springhall, general manager Remington’ Roneo Agency, have been nominated xol membership of the Wellington Rotal J Club. Mr R. C. Kirk, ten years Mayor ol Petone. and now solicitor to the borough, is a descendant of some of the very earliest settlers to arrive in New Zealand. His parent# landed at Whangafsi in 1823, just 100 years ago, and a few weeks back Mr Kirk gave a very interesting address at a meeting of early seb tiers on the subject. Besides Captain the Hon. Alexandei Ramsay, R.N.. husband of Princess "Pat,” there will be a visitor of special Interest .in H.M.S. Dunedin. This is Lieutenant-Commander Ricci, who is the paymaster, and who recently gave np a shore appointment at Chatham Nava,' Barracks to join the fleet for the world cruise. He is a well-known author of amusing sea stories dealing with modern naval life. He writes nnder the name of “Bartimens.” and his "Naval Occasions” and "Seaways" are most interesting sketches.
