HEAD-ON SMASH

MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. CHRISTIQHURGH FATALITY. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, November 25. George Bernard Condell Barnden, of Linwood, aged 19 years, was killed at New Brighton 'last night, as the result of a head-on collision with a tramcar. Barnden was riding a motorcycle, which he obtained only on Saturday morning. Near the pier he was travelling between the tram lines, and apparently thought he could pass a motor van, which was standing on the correct 6ide of the road, with its lights attached, before an approaching tram could reach him. The calculation proved wrong, for he ran directly into the lighted lamp of the tramcarj and was carried 27 yards before the car pulled up. He lived only a few minutes.
