BRIGADE COMPETITION. EVENTS CLOSELY CONTESTED. The annual competitions of the St. John Ambulance Brigade Overseas were held in the Buckle street Drill Hall on Saturday, and were all very closely contested. DISTRICT CHALLENGE ROSE BOWL; ' ■ Wellington South Nursing, Squad A, 1, Wellington South Nursing, Squad B, 2; Wellington South Nursing, Squad C, 3. ROSE BOWL FOR INDIVIDUAL HOME NURSING. Mrs Wilson, Wellington Nursing Division, 1. EXCELLENT WORK SHOWN. The judges in the details of various events were Drs. Eerily, R. Stout, Gordon Kemp, Corkill, uke . and Hai • oourt-Arthur, and .Matrons Stqtt and' Newman, who all expressed great appreciation of the high standard of the work shown. As an instance of the closeness of the results it may be mentioned that in one competition there was a difference of a quarter of a point only between the winner and the runner up. In another, in which there were II competitors a difference of five and a half marks only, in a maximum of 100, separated the winner from the last on the list. SOCIAL AND DANCE. Jn tha evening the visiting competitors and the local brigade members held a social and danoe at the Masonic Hall in Donald-MoLean street, among those present being Lieut-001. Barclay, Deputy Commissioner for New Zealand, and Major Gray, Assistant Commissioner for Canterbury. The former addressed those present and spoke of the work of St. John generally, and advised all to use their best endeavours to push the work forward and especially to enlist the interest and enthusiasm of the younger generation. He also spoke feelingly of the approaching retirement of Mr Seed. Assistant Commissioner for Wellington, under advioe of his medical attendant. Mr Seed after presenting the trophies to the winners said he desired to thank the doctors and hospital matrons for jurging the competitions, the stewards and other workers, the Community Club nnd Defence Department for the use of the rooms, the hospital for the loan of an ambulance van, the press, the Bov Scouts and the caretaker of the hall for much help during the day. On Sunday afternoon the visitors were entertained by a motor dive, and in the evening a full parade of the brigade was hsd at St. Mark’s Church, when the Rev. H. E. K. Fry preached a sermon suitable to the occasion.
